Our client is a well-established organisation with a national reputation based in Reading, seeking a Buyer with experience in horticulture or perishable goods to join their team. The constantly changing market and unique challenges that dealing with live products can bring makes this an enjoyable and dynamic role.
Full ongoing on-the-job training will be provided. The position is ideally suited to a someone who takes great pride in their work, has a meticulous approach, an eye for detail and the ability to manage their workload with constantly changing priorities.
About the role: Key areas of responsibility:
- Ownership of several product categories under the guidance of the Senior Buyer
- Responsibility for product pricing and promotional management
- Responsible for selecting and reviewing the ranges to maximise category performance.
- Liaison with customer service
- Developing and growing dropship programmes with nurseries and growers
- Managing stock control across multiple sites / nurseries
- Building / maintaining relationships with growers and suppliers
- Ability to comparison shop online and sometimes in store (garden centres)
- Coaching and developing the wider team
Key experience you’ll have:
- Horticultural knowledge with a good understanding of seasonality, competition and trends.
- Experience within a purchasing team is preferable
